Round 2 (2024-25) of the First Nations Heritage Grants program closed for applications on 21 February 2025. No further grant rounds are currently scheduled.
This program provides funding to help identify and protect First Nations heritage in existing World and National Heritage-listed places.
The program is providing $5.5 million over 3 years, delivered through 2 grant rounds, in 2023-24 (Round 1) and 2024-25 (Round 2). Projects must be on-Country with First Nations people leading the identification, assessment, recording and protection of First Nations cultural heritage.
The program aims to:
- Support the addition of Indigenous values to existing World Heritage and National Heritage listed properties.
- Better protect First Nations heritage and improve engagement with First Nations Peoples to support their heritage.
Eligibility
Existing World and National Heritage-listed places that have been recognised for their natural, Indigenous or historic heritage values were eligible to apply. Projects must be on-Country with First Nations people leading the identification, assessment, recording and protection of First Nations cultural heritage.
