Two statutory committees have been established under the Environment Protection (Alligator Rivers Regions) Act 1978:
- Alligator Rivers Region Advisory Committee (ARRAC)
- Alligator Rivers Region Technical Committee (ARRTC)
ARRAC meets twice a year and provides a forum for consultation and information exchange on issues related to the regulation and supervision of uranium mining activities in the Alligator Rivers Region. To ensure transparency in dealing with any concerns that accompany uranium mining it is necessary to have a system of open consultation with interested parties including the Aboriginal community, government, industry, the general community and special interest groups.
ARRTC is an independent expert panel which meets twice a year to review the scientific research undertaken by the Supervising Scientist Branch, mining companies and others into the impacts of uranium mining in the Alligator Rivers Region. ARRTC advises the Minister for the Environment on the adequacy and appropriateness of the scientific research conducted.
