The Water Efficiency Opportunities programme sought to support and encourage water efficiency within Australia's commercial and industrial sectors.
The commercial and industrial sectors currently consume 15 to 20 per cent of urban water in Australia and have an important role to play in securing water supplies.
Greater water efficiency and use of alternative water supplies by these sectors could take pressure off fresh water supplies in urban areas; resulting in productivity gains, net economic benefits, as well as environmental benefits.
The Water Efficiency Opportunities programme's key components included:
- Prime Minister's Water Wise Award - The nation's premier award that recognised significant savings in water use achieved by businesses in the commercial and industrial sectors.
- Grants and rebate schemes for businesses - A portal linking business with funding opportunities
The Water Efficiency Opportunities Program is closed and no future funding rounds are planned at this time.
