This methodology determination (method) provides the rules for crediting emission reductions achieved by reducing the emissions intensity per unit of land or sea transportation service.
Under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme, emissions reduced via a broad range of activities such as replacing or modifying vehicles, changing energy sources, and changing operational practices can receive ACCUs.

Sunsetting review
At the request of the Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the ERAC is seeking feedback on the compliance of the method with the Offsets Integrity Standards. If the method was to be remade, the ERAC is also seeking feedback on additional matters including:
- abatement potential
- co-benefits
- adverse impacts
- potential improvements.
Further information on the review is available at Sunsetting methods.
If you have questions about the consultation process, please contact the ERAC Secretariat at ACCUSecretariat@dcceew.gov.au.

Using the method
To use this method and participate in in the ACCU Scheme, you need to apply to the Clean Energy Regulator. The Regulator manages project registration, compliance and crediting of emissions reductions for projects under the ACCU Scheme.
Visit the Regulator’s website for further information on ACCU Scheme methods.
Previous consultation on the method
The draft method was originally provided for public consultation as a combined Transport method. Due to feedback, the method was split into separate determinations for Land and sea transport and Aviation.
See the public consultation and method draft on our Consultation hub.
The ERAC also consulted on a draft method for a proposed new Land and Sea Transport method in 2017. The ERAC advised the Minister that the draft method was not suitable to be made (PDF 139 KB).
The ERAC undertook a crediting period extension review in 2022. Please read:
