The Fuel Standards Consultative Committee provides a consultative mechanism for the Australian Government. The Minister must consult the committee and consider its recommendations before:
- creating or amending a fuel quality standard
- granting, varying or revoking an approval to vary a fuel standard
The Minister must advise the committee if:
- an application has been received for an emergency approval
- the Minister intends to grant an emergency approval
Members
Under the Act, the committee must include:
- 1 representative of the Commonwealth
- 1 representative of each State, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory
- 1 person representing fuel producers
- 1 person representing a non-government body with an interest in the protection of the environment
- 1 person representing the interest of consumers
