Finalised Priority Assessment Lists for the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists

The Finalised Priority Assessment List (FPAL) is a list of places under assessment by the Australian Heritage Council (AHC) for the:

• National Heritage List
• Commonwealth Heritage List.

The Minister for the Environment and Water sets assessment completion times in the FPAL. This aligns with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. 

As part of the assessment process, the AHC seeks feedback from stakeholders including:

• owners
• occupiers
• First Nations people with interests in the nominated places.

2026 Finalised Priority Assessment List (FPAL)

The 2026 FPAL lists: 

• all places currently under assessment for the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists
• their current assessment timeframes as at 14 September 2026.

Individual FPALs

Individual FPALs are published after every nomination period. These:

• set out the places the minister has decided the AHC should assess
• provide further detail on each place under assessment.
