About this report

The Home Energy Ratings and Disclosure: Insights from a real estate sector engagement report outlines the findings from the NSW Government’s engagement with the real estate sector.

The report looks at how home energy ratings could be integrated into the real estate sector systems. This would apply when residential properties go on the market for sale or lease.

The report identifies 4 key themes to meet consumer and industry needs:

  • Build the capacity of the market to adopt and respond to home energy ratings. This would be through education with key stakeholders.
  • Government needs to be the glue and orchestrate. This would enable adoption and make decision points easy.
  • Keep rules and guidance clear, simple and consistent. This would ensure competition is fair, and information is trusted, useful and comparable.
  • Make information tangible and provide context. This would ensure that users can make decisions and take action.
